School Tour Outdoor Adventures:
Baltinglass Outdoor Education & Training Centre – this south Wicklow centre offers a day package or an over-night 2-day option for primary aged kids. Looking at the ‘day’ option – it starts at 9.30am with canoeing, orienteering, hot lunch provided, abseiling or rock climbing and finishes with archery. It ends at 4.30pm with tired kids who are ready for singing on the bus home!

Hidden Valley Holiday & Aqua Park – build your own school tour package here. Choose either the Aqua Park Packages (age 7+) or Combat Laser Tag Packages (age 6+) and add extras on according to your requirements. Extras include: adventure mini golf and kayaking. You can also mix the aqua park with laser tag games and extras.
There are showers, a full restaurant, ice cream parlour, cinema room and an outdoor picnic area.

Special Ops Paintball East – Arrive in the morning for Special Ops briefing and get orientation and equipment. Then it’s time to get into the activities of Paintball, Splatball or Airsoft. Games are about team building and bonding – so teams are swapped around. Lunch of pizza can be provided and served around warm fires on cool days. Day usually ends by 2.30 but linger if you wish to try axe throwing or enjoy a guided walk.

The Forest Club – 3 hours of outdoor fun for this school tour with a large tarpaulin shelter for activities like nature arts n/crafts, flint and steel fire skills in case of rain. Usually starts with a guided nature trail, shelter building, and team building activities. The kids get to chill out on hammocks or create mud pies or pine needle soup in the outdoor play kitchen. Lunch is enjoyed around a campfire with marshmallows.

Glendalough Monastic Site – visit the early Christian monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6thcentury. Enjoy the visitor centre, food trucks, beautiful scenery and lakes. Maybe consider mixing this with Clara Lara, Wicklow Gaol or Greenan Maze nearby.

Arklow Maritime Museum – this museum encourages school tours and values passing on it’s fishing, boat building, curiosities, folklore and rescue n’ wreck stories to children. The staff have a children’s quiz based on the two thousand articles on display. There are colouring opportunities and videos to watch.

Wicklow Bowl & Kidzone – looking for an indoor school tour? You can build your won package from 12 bowling lanes, pool tables and arcade games downstairs with a 15,000sq ft indoor adventure play area upstairs. Wicklow Historical Gaol – formerly a prison, now a jail, located in the heart of Wicklow town. Upon entering the building your school tour class will be transported back in time and meet notorious character that previously filled the cells. During Covid the tours moved online and we hope to see this opening back up any day now. Wicklow Town
Kilmacuragh Arboretum – free school tours are invited to the Wicklow Botantical Gardens upon arrangement. Kids can enjoyed a guided tour of the beautiful gardens and enjoy the picnic benches for their lunch. There’s a café on site along with toilet facilities.
Funworks – are you considering an indoor adventure play centre for your school tour? This Arklow venue is offering two different options. They only take a single booking per day and activities include large n’ small go-carts, indoor beach, learning boards and birds, plants and bugs, tractors, traditional games, an animal walkway and a shop. National Bird of Prey Centre & Russborough House – nestled in the grounds of Russborough House your school tour includes an educational guided tour and talk about the birds. The children also get to experience a handling session with some hand-reared birds. It ends with an interactive flying display of owls, falcons, eagles, kites and hawks. Also at Russborough House you’ll find a playground magical fairy island, maze, walled garden, tearooms and can get a tour of the house. €7 – Age 8+
